ABOUT STEAM TRAINS:

The father of steam trains is George Stephenson, a former miner, who built locomotive no. 1 in 1829, the premier public steam railway. Steam locomotives run on wood, oil or coal. Huge pots of water are heated and the water is transformed into steam under high pressure. Steam and pressure turn the wheels. Although steam trains are no longer used for public transport in the 19th century, tourist railroads still exist.
